More about Dr Stefan Visagie

Dr Visagie grew up in Nelspruit, where he spent most of his childhood years. He matriculated in 1999 at Hoërskool Nelspruit before moving to Pretoria to pursue his medical studies. From early on in his career he had compassion for people suffering from illness and an interest in general surgery. He completed his MBChB in 2006 at the University of Pretoria and his FCS in surgery in 2015 at the University of Stellenbosch. (Tygerberg Hospital). He has been serving as a specialist general surgeon in the George and Garden Route area since 2016. Dr Visagie has a strong commitment to excellence and aims to do everything he does as unto the Lord. 
 

Dr Visagie is married to Lizel, the love of his life, and they are blessed with three precious children. He enjoys spending time with his family exploring the beautiful Garden Route. His hobbies include cycling, hiking, playing golf, and photography. Time in the bushveld remains a treasure to him.

Professional Background

Dr Stefan Visagie

Dr Stefan Visagie is a specialist general surgeon. He studied General Surgery at the University of Stellenbosch from January 2011 to December 2015. He obtained a Master of Medicine (MMed) Degree in Surgery from the University of Stellenbosch and passed the College of Surgeons of South Africa (FCS) examination in 2015. 

Since January 2016, he has served as a trusted consultant surgeon at George Provincial Hospital, gaining valuable skills and expertise in a wide variety of general surgical procedures. In 2025 Dr Visagie spent time in Denmark where he gained additional experience in hernia surgery. Now in private practice, he brings his expertise to patients in George and the Garden Route, operating at Mediclinic George.
